Projects and organisations across the region have until 17th November to submit their applications to become part of the London 2012 Inspire Programme. The Inspire Programme welcomes projects that are non-commercial that have been genuinely inspired by the 2012 Games coming to the UK.
This is the chance for projects to be recognised and become part of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games history as an official London 2012 Inspire project.
Organisations that join the programme will be awarded the Inspire mark and can use this special logo to promote their project or event as well as show that they are part of London 2012. After applications close, London 2012 will focus on supporting and showcasing the existing projects and events.
There are 127 Inspire projects across the East of England that animate the different themes of sport, culture, volunteering, education, business and sustainability.
An example of a sport project is 'Sportivate' with Living Sport in Cambridgeshire, a project that is part of Sport England’s mass participation legacy programme to encourage young people to take part in coaching sessions and uptake sport on a regular basis. Millions of people, across the UK, have already been a part of the Games through the involvement in an Inspire project. For more information on Sportive, click here.
Other projects have embraced more than one theme, such as 'Once In A Lifetime' with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Learning Trust, wo have used sport and cultural activity to engage with young people as volunteers.
The programme has been running for three years and recognises projects and events inspired by London 2012. There are Inspire mark projects spanning sport participation, culture, education, sustainability, volunteering and business opportunities & skills taking place all over the UK, for people of all ages and abilities. Earlier this year the 1,000th Inspire mark was awarded to 'Jump London', a London-based project designed to support the safe teaching and learning of Parkour, also known as Freerunning, by a qualified instructor. In August the 1,500th Inspire mark was awarded to the West Midlands Fire Service in recognition of its Fire Fit community engagement programmes.
Seb Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: ‘I’m delighted that we already have so many fantastic, innovative projects that are using the Games to inspire and engage their local communities and we look forward to supporting and showcasing these brilliant projects next year. I urge more organisations to sign up and use this opportunity to play their part in London 2012.’
Joseph Ballard, Inspire Programmer for the East of England said: “We already have a great portfolio of Inspire projects across our region but now is the time to add to that family of London 2012 activity. We have a matter of weeks to build upon our great reputation in the East for dynamic and community-valued projects, all inspired by the 2012 Games.”
